A Wonderful New Addition for Our New Aperol Addiction
My friend, Kevin, and I have been really become excited about exploring Aperol lately. By “exploring” I mean making and drinking any Aperol cocktail recipe we can find. It all started when we re-discovered the bright and fruity Clevelander Cocktail, a favorite from last Summer, and wondered what else we could do with our bottle of Aperol.
Since then we have found several wonderful new Aperol cocktails that are destined to enjoy frequent appearances in our Summer afternoon cocktail rotation – including the Honeywood Cocktail (Recipe Coming Soon), Maggiano’s Little Italy The Sicilian Cocktail (Recipe Coming Soon), Romano’s Macaroni Grill Old Fashioned Cocktail (Recipe Coming Soon) and today’s cocktail, The Damn Hansel.
The Damn Hansel Cocktail has only 4 ingredients, but, like the best classic cocktails, melds them into something greater than the sum of its parts. Even though we first tried this recipe during our Summer Aperol Love-Fest, this is clearly a Winter drink and I can’t wait to sip it sitting by the fireplace with a plate of gingerbread cookies.
Don’t skip the Saline Solution (It’s easy to make – 1 part Salt to 4 parts Water) – It carries the weight of balancing out the sweetness of the other three ingredients, a spot normally reserved for the bitters.
