The Rum Punch Party Drink served at Florida’s Little Palm Island Resort & Spa is delightfully known as the Gumby Slumber.
The name, “Gumby Slumber” comes from “the walk you will do headed for a hammock to sleep it off.” If you are old enough to remember Gumby, you understand. If not, see below.

Gumby and the Gumby Slumber
Do you remember Gumby?
Gumby, is a popular character that first appeared in 1955 on the Howdy Doody TV show as a flat, green clay figure. Since then, Gumby has had his own successful TV series and even starred in a full-length movie in 1995. Accompanied by his loyal companion, Pokey, a talking orange pony, Gumby embarks on thrilling adventures in various historical eras and unique environments.
Gumby’s distinct characteristics – being flat and malleable, allows for exaggerated and fluid movements when walking. That’s where the name Gumby Slumber comes from. The deceptive potency of this cocktail sneaks up on you – so that after you drink one or two and try to rise from your bar stool, you may find yourself moving in a loose and exaggerated manner, reminiscent of Gumby, as you navigate your way back to your room or a comfortable hammock to slumber away the afternoon.
During the 1960s and after the movie, Gumby merchandise gained considerable popularity. My brother and I owned Gumby and Pokey figurines – as did my son, 30 years later. Did you? Feel free to share your stories below in the comments section.
