Demerara Sugar Simple Syrup
Demerara Sugar Simple Syrup is an ingredient in many modern cocktails including The Freehand Old Fashioned. Demerara Sugar adds a rich, molasses-like flavor to cocktails that simple syrup doesn’t have. Demerara Sugar can be found in almost every large super market and Demerara Sugar Simple Syrup is very easy to make at home.
Demerara Sugar Simple Syrup Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 cup Demerara Sugar
- 1 cup Water
Directions
- In a small saucepan, combine the sugar and water.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat. Heat and stir the mixture until the sugar completely dissolves.
- Remove from heat and let cool before transferring to a clean glass jar or bottle with an airtight lid.
- Store the Demerara Sugar Simple Syrup in the refrigerator for up to a month. Demerara Sugar Simple Syrup will not actually “go bad”, but it will eventually grow mold. (Pro Move – Add a tablespoon of vodka or white rum to the Demerara Sugar Simple Syrup to make it last longer.)
