Simple Syrup

Simple syrup is an ingredient in a large number of cocktails including classics like The Old Fashioned, Mojito, Margarita and Daiquiri. Simple syrup is very easy to make at home and you very likely have both ingredients.

Simple Syrup Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 cup Water

Directions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the sugar and water.
  2. Place the saucepan over medium heat. Heat and stir the mixture until the sugar completely dissolves. (Alternately, place both ingredients in the bottle and shake until the sugar dissolves completely. It takes longer to make this way, but the advantage is that you can use it immediately.)
  3. Remove from heat and let cool before transferring to a clean glass jar or bottle with an airtight lid.
  4. Store the simple syrup in the refrigerator for up to a month. Simple syrup will not actually “go bad”, but it will eventually grow mold. (Pro Move – Add a tablespoon of vodka or white rum to the simple syrup to make it last longer.)
